The Kangaroos have booked their place in the Monster Energy FIM Speedway of Nations final in Poland on June 8-9, after doing things the hard way and winning through the third-place race off. Jason Doyle and Max Fricke needed just three points in the race off against Czech Republic, and the pair pulled together to grab second and third and secure four points.
It was a slow start for the Kangaroos in Manchester for the heats, with the disadvantage of the seven-nation set up meaning our first time on track was our opponents second run. The Kangaroos slowly clicked into gear as Doyle and Fricke put the slow start behind them.
As usual there is nothing that spurs an Australian on like going up against the Brits, and it was no different last night when the Kangaroos grabbed a 5-1 result against Great Britain and got their night going.
This was the highlight of the heats for Australia and gave the Kangaroos some momentum in what was an up and down meeting going into the third-place race-off.
Kangaroos Captain Jason Doyle, admits they had to graft to book their spot in Wroclaw, but knows his side take a clean slate into the final; “We knew the Swedes; the Brits and the Czechs were going to be hard to beat. There were a few surprise packages with the Finns and Timo Lahti and Tero Aarnio being so quick around this track. There wasn’t one easy race where we knew we would go out and get a 5-1.
“We need to push forward now and forget about the Manchester meeting. Hopefully all the bad luck is away now. We start afresh on Friday and Saturday to go for the medals. We have a very good chance,” Finished Doyle.
Kangaroos Team Manager Mark Lemon, was thrilled to make the final and wanted to thank those helping the team; “A big thank you to CBS Bins, Gillman Speedway and Motorcycling Australia for helping us be here and ultimately giving us the chance to make the final,” said Lemon.
