The line-ups are now locked in for the 2024 Australian Speedway U16 125cc Championships, with the solo and teams’ events to be held at the Kingaroy Showground (Qld) on the weekend of September 28-29.
Both fields, selected by Motorcycling Australia’s Track Commission, pack a punch, with riders including defending champion Ky Mitchell as well as Cooper Antone and Sonny Spurgin, who finished second and fourth respectively in the 2024 FIM Speedway Youth World Cup.
Antone was the only rider to lower Mitchell’s colours in last year’s solo event in Tamworth, so the signs all point towards another electrifying event in Kingaroy.
Meanwhile, the highly credentialled trio will be joined by four riders who are returning from the 2023 Australian solo championship, while the balance of the field will be filled by the next wave of junior speedway aspirants.
The rosters for the two championships are as follows:
The solo event will take place on the Saturday, followed by the teams’ battle on Sunday where Queensland (Mitchell and Corey van Elswyk) is the defending champion after defeating New South Wales (Antone and Spurgin) in 2023.
