The 2024 Australian Speedway Championship kicks off at North Brisbane Speedway, Banyo on Thursday, January 4.
Utilising the Mick Doohan Raceway variant of the circuit, riders will be put through their paces over 350 metres of decomposed granite in a bid to get the championship off to a good start.
The race meeting will be run over 20 heats of four laps each, with the top eight riders progressing to the two semi-finals. The format is as follows:
- Riders who finish the 20 heats in 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th on points will compete in the 1st semi-final; and
- Riders who finish the 20 heats in 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th on points will compete in the 2nd semi-final.
Those finishing 1st and 2nd in each semi-final earn the right to compete in the final, with riders putting it all on the table in a bid to claim round honours.
Entry gates open at 3:00pm with motorcycles to roll out on track for practice at 5:30pm before racing gets underway at 6:00pm.
Spectators are in for a treat with the opportunity to get up close to the behind-the-scenes action, with the chance to see the motorcycles and riders during the pit lane walk between 4:00-5:00pm. You may even be lucky enough to grab an autograph from your favourite rider!
